Sorry I’ve Been Gone For a Minute

Yeah, I know I been gone for a minute. I wish I could say because I’m makin’ mad loot and moving up in the corporate world. But such is not the case. And while I have been away, a lot of things that shape our lives have come across our airwaves. This is especially true about information we are getting concerning the pros and cons about whom to elect as the leader of this country, be it Barack Obama or John McCain.
But I believe our images, sound bytes, and infrmation is being reported irresponsibly and making it hard to distinguish “legit” journalist from TMZ. There’s a term called yellow journalism. Yellow journalism, by definition, is journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists. This practice is running rampant nowadays and it seems to popping up everywhere.
Remember when there was the fear by those who oppose him that Obama was too much of a “celebrity” and that, because of this, he was more enamored with being that than leader of the free world. Or the fist pound exchanged between Barack and his wife Michelle? Yeah, I know, not really newsworthy shit. But, it was a “story” somehow. I mean, honestly, who do you know that hasn’t greeted each other like that? Exactly. I guess he’s supposed to be a robot and conform to a certain status. It’s almost like racial profiling in a way. I mean, let’s be fair. Did anyone here the little tidbit about McCain’s wife being a “pill popper” years ago? No? Oh, guess it wasn’t a story. After all, McCain’s a former prisoner of war and a “maverick”. How dare mainstream media do anything to tarnish his legacy. Movin’ on…
Which brings me to everyone’s favorite “hockey mom” Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. We all know why McCain tabbed her. But is it me or did Bill Gates program this woman to answer a question with a question. She never seems to be on the same page as her running mate, and in some cases, seems rather contradictory in many of her statements. But that doesn’t matter because she is a media darling. She’s got five kids and she’s still able to be governor of Alaska and now a V.P. candidate. Umm excuse me, isn’t she pulling on the same “supposed” celeb card that critics have been trying to pin on Barack since day one. And honestly, there are many, many everyday women that do the same juggling act between home and work so please, knock that shit off.
So, where am I going with all this? Well, we have a little over a month before Election Day and I implore each and every one of us to wade through the nonsense and look at the issues through our own eyes. It is obvious that those that are legit sources of news in mainstream media are few and far between. We need to elect on substance not style, actions not words. See what happens when I go away for a minute. All hell breaks loose. But I’m back…back with a vengeance.
