The Fresh Fest 2009 concert at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles was a historical Hip Hop event to remember. This amazing concert brought out the best Hip Hop artist of all time from the 80’s and 90’s. The line up for the show included Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, DJ Quik, and Hoodini.  Thousands of fans flooded the Nokia Theater, an elegant venue which provided an amazing aerial view of the show for every seat in the building.

It was only fitting that the livest MC of all time opened the show, no one other than “The Human Beat Box Machine” Doug E Fresh. As soon as Fresh hit the stage he was greeted by an enormous outburst of cheers by each and every fan in attendance. Fresh did not disappoint what so ever, performing a variety of hits which included :”Just Having Fun”, “The Original Human Beat Box”, “The Show”, and more. He also gave the fans what they were waiting for and that’s his infamous display of various beat box tempos, beats, and breaks. Fans were blessed with a treat when he brought Slick Rick The Ruler(jewelry included) to the stage performing their 1985 hit “La Di Da Di”, this brought everyone to their feet.  Slick Rick didn’t leave the stage without performing a few hit singles of his own which included:”Children’s Stories”, “Hey Young World”, and “Teenage Love”.

It has been a while since Hip Hop has seen such an energetic group that makes good music like Naughty by Nature. Although they had big shoes to fill by following up Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh, they definitelygave ticket buyers their moneys worth. The group brought liveliness to the show with hyped anthem songs. The group performed their hits which included: “OPP”,”Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”, “Uptown Anthem”, and more. Followed by Naughty was Los Angeles’ own DJ Quik who was introduced by comedian Katt Williams. Quik entered the stage wearing a throwback LA Kings starter jacket with an old school boom box in hand. Unfortunately he only gave fans two songs and left the stage but not before promoting his show which will take place at the House of Blues on Sunset September 25th. It was apparent Quik was upset for not being able to close the show in his own hometown and rightfully so. Show performers made a terrible decision by not letting Quik close the show.  Hoodini did close the show and unfortunately for him most fans headed for the exits after Quik left the stage.  Overall the Fresh Fest was a phenomenal event. It reminds you of what a true Hip Hop show is. These artist existed in the music business when your music had to have a message in it. Today’s artist exist due to a factor of gimmicks mixed with the internet. A true fan of music can appreciate these artist and what they have done for Hip Hop. Special thanks to Doug E Fresh, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, DJ Quik, and Hoodini.

Throwback Wednesday’s:2 Pac’s “I Get Around”

August 5, 2009

This weeks throwback Wedsnesday is featuring the greatest rapper of all time, Tupac Shakur. Lost but never forgotten and always remembered, the infamous late rapper will always be remembered. The featured song “I Get Around” was Shakur’s coming out party as a solo artist. A product of The Digital Underground camp Pac came on to the scene with a bang with the release of this catchy flamboyant single describing his lifestyle as a star traveling meeting many different women from city to city and state to state. Its no secret the brother definitely got around. My only question is with all that getting around why didn’t Pac leave behind any kids? I guess he took advantage of prophylactics. Enjoy…

EMINEM- THE WARNING (MARIAH CAREY DISS)

July 31, 2009

eminem-picture-2

Eminem responds to Mariah Carey’s Obsessed track. And lets just say that it was not pretty at all people! Mariah and her hubby Nick Cannon have awakened the sleeping lyrical giant. Listening to this track makes me really want to see the photos Em was talking about. I also would love to hear the voicemails as well. Do you think MC should respond back to this? Personally I do not think it would be wise. For one she do not have enough firepower for Eminem, he will say anything(see his entire career). Its safe to say it would be in Mariah’s best interest to bow out gracefully. I won’t even mention Nick Cannon, his Nickalodian background alone gives him zero chance. Wild out! Enjoy people…
