The 2009 BET Awards in Video | Award show review: higlights and low lights lol

The good, the bad, the ugly. The BET Awards. Chad Bell did his BET Awards Review earlier, and was met with mixed opinions from the readers. Most felt that the Awards were absolute trash while Mr. Bell felt that the show was a good production. Myself, i feel that the Awards were lacking, but in this day and age most awards shows are exactly that, lacking. Even without the tributes the show would have lacked, to be honest, all award shows suck!
I thought Jamie could’ve done a better job. Im not at all sure if his funny was diluted by the producers, or if the tense climate that MJ’s death created sombered the show, but the Jamie Foxx i was expecting only briefly showed up. One highlight was the movie trailer spoof with classic TV characters from our past, Shenaynay (from “Martin”) and Wanda (from “In Living Color”) brought Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx to the awards. However fictious it was, it was a great moment. They should play on that and actually make that into reality.
Unfortunately i felt there weren’t too many other highlights, short of the Ojays’ Eddie Levert slipping up and dropping a nice profane word on us that BET was too slow to catch. (BET was piss poor in their attempts at censoring Lil Wayne also).
Seeing the Ojays get down was another highlight of the evening, its a shame that these old dudes out did most of the young performances of the night. Jay-Z was another “classic” artist (i say classic instead of old) who out did the youngin’s, especially Young Money’s garbage of a show. Im a Drake fan, and i guess i give Drake a pass having hurt himself, but their set was confusion at BEST. Which doesnt surprise me though, their performance at Spring Break was just as sh*tty.
Jamie Foxx moonwalking was entertaining, as was his MJ tribute attire, but the rest of the tribute’s were poor attempts:
I understand the timing made it difficult to put together GREAT tributes, but i feel like rather than two or three tributes BET could have concentrated their efforts on one GREAT tribute and gave Mike his just due. And in classic BET fashion, they definitely didnt hesitate to give themselves a pat on the back for what they thought was a great show, and tribute.
Keri Hilson’s performance was a stand out, but thats not saying much compared to the others.
The Addition of the Queen [Latifah] to Mary Mary’s set was surprising and well done, but her constant dropping of her album title and date during the after show was annoying.
As im currently writing this im noticing that Viacomm is taking videos down from EVERYWHERE. (If you want to see footage from the show go to BET.com, of course their videos dont allow you to embed, how stingy!) So i wont conitune posting videos that may or may not be up when you read this. But what i will say in conclusion is this. the BET Awards 2009, with or without the MJ tributes, were and would have been a mockery. But, i say BUT, they are in good company as ALL awards shows are terrible. Dont feel bad world they just dont love us like they used to.
