Will Hiphop Kill Obama’s Campaign?

August 28, 2008 · Print This Article

Will it kill the campaign? No? Will it help it? Maybe, maybe not? Will it be affected? VERY MUCH SO. Hiphop, as with any outlet has the power to change, the power to influence but it all depends HOW that power is used. For instance, Ludacris used his influence in a way that caused the Obama Campaign to alienate itself from Ludacris, and maybe hiphop as a whole. You be the judge though. Leave a comment and let me know what you think, and we’ll go from there. I’ll post my replies. Lets get a discussion started….

i think hip hop gets such a bad rep from non hip hop listeners. The media focuses on the negative so I guess I can kind of understand. But who are we to tell folks you can’t express your thoughts the way you want to. That’s what emcee’s do, and right now with all the problems in the world I guess they feel like they need to speak on politics and the need for change. I think people just need to understand that hip hop is a form of entertainment, story telling and life.

No. Love it or hate it, hip hop has catapulted a lot of people into the limelight. I wonder how many young hip hop fans paid close attention to Obama after the Luda song came out who hadn’t paid attention to him before…

I actually wish that rappers would stop being so vocal about politics… it’s really causing much more trouble than it’s worth.
