Steve Harvey on the death of Bernie Mac | Even though they weren’t friend at time of his death…

August 11, 2008

I was alerted of this post over at Rhymes With Snitch by Ms. Kris and thought id share my thoughts on the matter. I really should be at my boxing training, or at least working on my blog titled “Is the Hoe the new Housewife” but both can wait a min or two.

Ms Kris’s email read: “Check this out. That’s f’d up if Steve Harvey really did that. But it is sadly typical of what happens when someone passes.Usually the first person to fall out is the main one that acted a fool when the person was alive.SMH”

Apparently Steve Harvey had dirty Mac’ed The Mac before his death. An older adviser of mine, Dr. McNeely, shared with me that, in a time of mourning, those who cry the hardest are usually those who have the most regrets regarding the deceased. And this rings true, in every sense, with this story of Mr. Steve Harvey. Rhymes with snitch said:

Who remembers that Bernie Mac interview in Ebony magazine where Bernie talked about how he and Steve Harvey were no longer friends because after Bernie got that part in Ocean’s 11, Steve and his publicist went behind his back and contacted the producers and tried to tell them that Steve would be a much better fit for the part? At the time, Bernie said of all the Hollywood bullshit he’d been through that was the one thing that hurt him the most. And now who’s the first one on TV talking about how much they loved and will miss Bernie? Steve “I ain’t got no shame” Harvey.

Some of the comments by readers over at Rhymes felt that “falling outs” dont stop you from caring, and wouldnt mean that in death someone wouldnt be sad over the loss. Which is true, but, someone fake enough to go behind the back of a friend is no friend at all, and that shows the level of which they REALLY care. yes “That’s hollywood s#!t for you” one reader commented, and that is really what it boils down to. Another reader said:

1. Steve Harvey should drink a gallon of nuclear ass burning hot sauce to burn the hypocritical taste from his mouth.

2.Light 1000 candles and repent for his greed and jealousy @ bernie mac’s career.

Only then should he be allowed to express regret at mac’s passing.

Another reader felt slightly annoyed by the site Rhymes With Snitch and accused them of starting trouble. Anyone on twitter knows thats my job, as i have been given the nickname “Trouble” by fellow blogger CandyRayne of Candys Rayne.

Check out the video of Steve’s phone call… and tell me what you think about it.

Bernie Mac Gone but not forgotten… | Ms. Kris

August 9, 2008

On the morning of Saturday, August 09, 2008 we lost Bernie Mac at the age of 50. My first memory of Bernie Mac was on the Def Comedy Jam.

He had everyone in the audience going. With lines like “I love sex! I love it! Can’t do shit no mo…and I’m blessed. If I pull my shit out and this whole room will get dark….kick it….you don’t understand….I’m not scared of you motherfuckers.” He was serious about his on stage as we saw in the 2000 documentary The Real Kings of Comedy. Bernie had broadened his career to include both television, with The Bernie Mac Show from 2001 to 2006, and movies such as the Ocean’s series, Charlie’s Angels : Full Throttle, Guess Who, Transformers and Bad Santa.

The official statement from his publicist confirms this:

“Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” Smith said in a statement. “No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected.”

We can all remember Bernie in his upcoming movies Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Soul Men.

Rest in peace…

Not The Mac…. | Bernie Mac Passes

August 9, 2008

They say that laughter is the best medicine. Not that long ago, we lost a comedic legend in George Carlin.

And now, the comedy world has suffered another tragic loss as one of the “Original Kings of Comedy” Bernie Mac, has passed due to complications of pneumonia. He was only 50 years old. Just a few weeks back, Mac was at the center of a controversy over a comedic routine he performed at an Obama fundraiser in Chicago. And now he is no longer here.

I am not going to bore you with the details of what this man accomplished. Whether playing” Dolla Bill” in “The Playaz Club “to his own hit show to his work onstage, his true passion was to entertain us, just like any great performer. You knew what you’re getting when it came to Bernie Mac: unabashed, uncensored, and unapologetic. He exercised the limits of the first amendment the way the likes of Carlin and Richard Pryor did.

Now, I am sure that people will say that he tamed his routine down once mainstream caught hold of his star. And that may be true. But at the heart of his person, no matter what he did, was passion. Passion for his craft. See we are all so self conscious of what we say or do that we will not take chances. That fly’s in the face of what comedy is all about and not everyone has the gift.

But for those that do,we should all celebrate them.I am nopt going to lament the fact that he only spent 50 years on this earth and that his life was cut way too short. Because truthfully, what you put into life is what you will get out.Instead, I will think about all the side splitting laughter he brought to my heart, mind, and soul.I will think about the fact that he has a awardi winning sitcom in syndication (and if you know anything about that as it relates to television history, you’ll understand the significance.)Shit, I can almost hear his ass right now, talking to God,or whomever, talking about “I ain’t scared of you, muthafucka!I’ll kick ya ass”or some clever play on words that will bring a broad wide smile to many a people’s faces.

I guess, in retrospect, that’s the greatest tragedy. All we have are those memories. But let us celebrate those memories.I said at the beginning that laughter is the best medicine. It seems rather ironic that a tear would come to our collective eyes when thinking about the loss of comic icons like George Carlin, and ,in this case ,Bernie Mac. But such is life. Without great tragedy,we sometimes forget to appreciate more happier times. So we are not saying goodbye to Bernie Mac.We’re sayin”See ya soon”.And you better be there…or else there’s gonna be “trouble, trouble”. Late

Tribute to Bernie Mac….RIP | CB…..

August 9, 2008

I was sad this morning when my mother told me the news of Bernie Mac passing away in the hospital. This was shocking news to me. Yesterday there were reports that he was recovering in the hospital and was doing ok but today it was reported that he died from ammonia complications he was battling. I will forever remember him for days on Def Comedy Jam in the 90’s, he used to always yell out “KICK ASS!” and then start dancing…..it was some of the funniest shit ever. I also remember him from movie roles on Friday, Players Club Life, Ocean’s 12, Charlie’s Angels, Mr.3000, and many more good films. Bernie Mac put a smile on many faces while he was on this earth. He was a good African American man in the entertainment business and also a good family man. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. Rest In Peace Mr. Bernie Mac! And KICK ASS! Here is a few clips of some of his work.

Dirty Mac

July 15, 2008

6346This was taken from BET.com regarding the standup routine of actor/comedian Bernie Mac,at a Barack Obama fundraiser in Chicago

“Comedian Bernie Mac is still a Barack Obama fan, though Mac didn’t get a fan’s welcome at an event for the presidential candidate. Mac, a long-time supporter, performed at a recent Hyatt Regency Hotel fundraiser for Obama in Chicago. Some at the $2,300-a-head event resented Mac’s jokes, which included: “My little nephew came to me and he said, ‘Uncle, what’s the difference between a hypothetical question and a realistic question? I said, I don’t know, but I said, ‘Go upstairs and ask your mother if she’d make love to the mailman for $50,000.’” Other jokes reportedly touched on promiscuity and women until one spectator shouted, “It’s not funny! Let’s get Barack on!” Obama followed the popular star of the “Bernie Mac Show,” saying, “We can’t afford to be divided by region or by class and we can’t afford to be divided by gender, which by the way, that means, Bernie, you’ve got to clean up your act next time.” Although he later added, “By the way, I’m just messing with you, man,” Obama’s campaign rep later denounced the comedian’s choice of material, which also included a reference to ‘hoes,’ as “inappropriate.”

Now,my question is,what’s the problem?I mean, he didn’t say he was going to “cut Obama’s nuts off”like Jesse Jackson did. Was his material inappropriate? We are talking about Bernie Mac, someone who has always pushed the envelope when it comes to his humor. Did the Obama camp not know what they were getting when he was made part of the fundraiser? Surely they are not that naive to think that he was going to hold back any material. Then again, maybe that’s not it at all.

See,I consider myself a pretty liberal individual when it comes to taste. I cannot expect everyone to be as such, but that’s cool. But we are so godamn sensitive and worried about being politically correct in this country. I mean , is Barack’s image going to be tarnished by words spewed by Mac? If they are, in some people’s eyes, that’s pretty narrow minded. Even Obama made light of it later on but his representation was going crazy.

I mean , for crying out loud, a man of faith in Jackson speaks to perpetrate bodily harm on Obama, then apologizes, is somehow absolved of it. But a couple of “ho” references in the course of a comedy routine is unforgivable. Give me a f**kin break.

Let me bottom line it. To paraphrase “The Rock .” Nothing.. and I mean nothing that anyone says or does short of catching Obama or McCain in an inappropriate circumstance or act is gonna decide this election. So we need to get of our” holier than thou” trip and start thinking about what we really want in November. Same old., same old..or real change. Me, I’m continue to chase my money, get my paper, and “buy my medicine”. Late
