BET Awards ‘08 Red Carpet Review

So the BET Awards ‘08 went down in Los Angeles last night. And of course I was on standby to check out the outfits on the red carpet.
It seems like yellow was the color of the night. Rihanna looked like the 50-foot women in a tiered floor-length dress. I think she looked hot, but I wasn’t in love with the modern Partridge Family-inspired dress. Is this a contradiction on my part? No. Any dress that gives the illusion of floating 10 feet of the ground is hot in my book. Trina also wore yellow, but her look was the opposite of Riri’s: She looked atrocious. I think she was so excited about finally getting a camouflage Louis Vuitton Monogramouflage that she couldn’t wait to rock it at the next event. Not only was this the wrong event, but this is the wrong dress for the bag. Keyshia Cole’s looked cute. Her stylists have been working over time to keep her fab and cutting edge, but it may take me a minute to decide whether I like or dislike this look. Lauren London wore a yellow minidress with some hot Givenchy heels. Cute look, but i wish she would have gone the extra mile for the red carpet. To tell the truth, I’m still in love with her look from last year’s BET award show.
Alicia Keys, Chrisette Michelle and Shay “Buckeey” Johnson all wore hot pink. Alicia wore a strapless David Meister dress with black & white Sergio Rossi pumps. She’s my pick for best dressed of the night. Buckeey’s outfit was the opposite of Alicia, with a black & white zebra print dress, and hot pink heels. The shoes were almost hot, but there’s something too “ankle brace” about them. Chrisette Michelle wore a strapless layered dress. This look was also almost (so close, but yet so far) It had far too many layers.
Lil Kim and Nia Long both wore purple. And they both looked nice. Lil Kim’s red carpet appearances seem to get better and better each time. I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen her with this much fabric, leave it to Versace to cover her up. But I hate that hair color. It makes her skin look so pasty. Finally, when she gets some color back to her skin tone, she chooses a hair color that makes her look ashy. Nia Long looked hot as always. She always looks so fresh, and I suppose it’s because she doesn’t overdose on MAC…
Jannifer Hudson decided to go with the same designer that created her bra-out dress for the Sex and The City New York premiere. I guess if it aint broke, don’t fix it. Just like the last dress, this one was super tight. She couldn’t have taken a seat without this dress splitting at the seams. But beauty is pain, so if there’s hot dress that causes you to stand all night in some high heels, I say go for it… Jordin Sparks wore a similar sleek and sexy look as Jennifer. But her dress had a ruffle detail in the front. Smart move; no matter how tight the dress, she could still sit comfortably…
Kid Sister and Angel Love Lola were the only two women wearing all black. Instead of the boring black that’s usually seen on the red carpet, this two both stood out in a crowd. Kid Sister’s black number had lots of movement, but her accessories were the key. I’m loving the shoes and the clutch. It’s a huge improvement from the red and turquois combo she wore to the New York Sex and The City premiere. I don’t have much expectation for Angel; I’m just glad her as isn’t hanging out, though the same couldn’t be said about her top. But I like this dress with its scale bottom. And her cute Jimmy Choos are currently on sale.
Lisa Raye and Gabrielle Union must have gotten their wires crossed. It’s usually Gabrielle showing her legs in a little cocktail dress and Lisa Raye in all white. Well, like Obama said, “It’s time for a change,” and looking at these comments, I would have to agree.
Cassie walked the red carpet missing half of her dress. I wish her people would have informed her. I blame Diddy… And Vivienne Westwood. The VW dress looked like something out of Star Trek. If there were ever a hoochie on Star Trek, she would wear this dress… Solange Knowles should know better. I know she takes a lot of chances, but her looks have been so on-point lately. But she paired all of her hair, with a printed dress and her leopard print cut-out wedge hills and her feather bag. Too much too soon, Solange.
There were also two silver sightings during the night. One good and one bad; can you tell which is which? If you guessed Claudia Jordan as the good one, you are right. She wore a pleated silver floor skimming dress. It was the perfect match for her skin tone. But Keri Hilson was bad. Not bad as in bad, but bad as in “what he hell is she wearing?”. I was actually looking forward to seeing Keri last night, but was cringed when I saw that she looked like she stepped off of a time machine.

For those that missed it, or saw it, and wanna see it again…. I mean im not an Usher fan by far, but i gotta admit he did his thing. BUT i will say this, i think C.B. (no no not TCJ C.B…. i mean Chris Brown) got waaay more moves.
