Black is Beautiful

Black literature, when we think of black writers many of the same names pop in our heads Langston Hughes, Alice Walker, and Maya Angelou. Indeed all these writers are timeless and have written beautiful works, but there are so many more authors who have fallen under the radar. As a writer I dread that one day a culture that is so enriched with beauty works of literature will be lost to a generation who never took the time to see into the souls of people who gave their lives in words as hope of freedom and escape. Blacks culturally have the most enriching, interesting, and fascinating stories to tell. Since we have come to America blacks have used the arts as a means of expressing the pain and joy that life brings. The intricate words and details used by a people who have fought for centuries and made their niche as people who have never blended in, use writing as a means of escape. The beautiful thing about writing is there is no wrong way. Yes people have their preference and style of writing but the freedom you have when you use words is something that no one can take from you. There’s no need to blend in a world where people don’t know what it is to be an individual. So when you have free time check out some of these authors allow yourself to get lost in a world of words. Keep black literature alive.
