Jay Z’s Take on the whole Ice T vs Soulja Boy issue

MTVnews.com asked good ol Jay about the ensuing beef argument between Soulja Boy and Ice T. He gave his two cents on the matter. I can kinda agree with the fellow, to some degree, although i do think Soulja Boy is wack. But if you read my previous posts on this matter you might’ve seen my synopsis. Music is entertainment at the end of the day. Just like any other form of entertainment its to the preference of the entertained to chose what type of entertainment they are entertained by. Some like watching Baseball, some like football, others like going to the circus…
Yeah, people are still talking about the Ice-T vs. Soulja Boy Tell’em flap. The issue is much larger than the two artists; it’s about the generation gap. What does the man the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust voted the Greatest MC of All Time have to say? Jay-Z noted that it’s essential to have the ying and the yang.
“Well, I think there’s a balance, right?” Jay said while he was in the U.K. to headline the Glastonbury music fest. “I think the newer guys have got to respect the foundation and what’s been laid down for them. The older guys have got to respect what’s coming up next. So, I know that sounds like a non-answer but that’s just the truth. In hip-hop, it’s all about balance. You’ve always had [Jazzy Jeff] and Fresh Prince when you had Rakim. There’s always been a balance in hip-hop, and I think it’s always needed. So, as long as we respect each other, ‘Old school, new school, no school rules.’ Doug E. Fresh, I guess.”

Did he have to reply? I mean, i agree with Ice, Soulja Boy is wack, aint my type of music. But still… and then his son at the end…. i cant lie tho i’d love to see that war pop off. Good HipHop vs Wack HipHop. Kanye on the other hands, feels a litte different. Yeezy’s Blog reads:
Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. Now, Comparing anything Soulja Boy to anything Nas, is a cardinal sin, to me. Im sorry, it is. Ye’ i cant agree with you on that one. But we are all entitled to our own opinions. At the end of the day its all entertainment. Some people like watching Kimbo fight in the MMA, other people enjoy the circus. Ya Dig?!?

As you may have already heard Ice T made a comment this week saying, “Soulja Boy single handedly killed hip hop”. Well Soulja Boy responds with a video and this shit is funny as hell. This little dude had me crying laughing. I am sorry but I have a new respect for him. Although he is joking around in the video he does make alot of sense in the process and is surprisingly mature for his age. Ice T should be ashamed of himself picking on a seventeen year old boy. Get a life Ice T. And with that said enjoy this video folks and Thank God the Weekend is here.
